slide scanning & film scanning

slides

New World Digital Arts offers professional slide scanning and film scanning of 35mm slides and negatives, APS film rolls, medium format (120/220) film positives and negatives, XPan film and XPan slides, and 4X5-inch sheet film. We also scan 110 slides, 126, 127, 127 Super Slides, and 3D Stereo Slides. Standard scanning resolutions offered are 2000 and 4000DPI, although other resolutions are available. We use only the latest state-of-the-art professional scanning equipment. In the case of 35mm, 110, 126 and APS, we scan slides and scan film with Nikon Super CoolScan 5000 ED scanners equipped with DIGITAL ICE4. We use only the top-of-the-line Nikon Super CoolScan 9000 ED with DIGITAL ICE4 for medium format, 127 Super Slides, 3D Stereo Slides and XPan slide scans and film scans. For large format film scans we employ Canon CanoScan® 9950Fs with FARE™ LEVEL 3 which are capable of optical resolutions up to 4800DPI, and like the Nikon, come equipped with a built in Infrared channel for dust and scratch removal. Included with every slide scan and film scan at no additional charge are both uncompressed TIFF and compressed JPEG files, image rotation where necessary, cropping to eliminate black borders, infrared dust and scratch reduction, color correction, grain reduction, and fade restoration as required, and the cost of the CDs and DVDs required to preserve your images. We even include the Jewel Cases used to protect those discs. We also do not add additional charges for slides shipped in trays, carousels, or cubes, nor do we have any minimum order requirements. Large or small, we put the same effort into providing the best slide scans and film scans possible on every order. We use only the finest equipment, bring many years experience in scanning film and scanning slides to disk, save your images on the highest quality media available, and we do this for a fair price.

photo scanning

pictures

Most of what we've said about film scanning applies equally to our print scanning service, except that scanning resolutions offered as standard are 300 and 600DPI. Unless we are scanning very small images that may be enlarged 300DPI is usually a good choice, especially as no matter what the scanning resolution your printer is only capable of providing 300DPI on paper. For scanning prints -- up to a maximum size of 8-1/2x11-inches -- we use Canon CanoScan® 9950Fs with FARE™ LEVEL 3 which are capable of optical resolutions up to 4800DPI, and like the Nikons we use for film scanning, come equipped with a built in Infrared channel for dust and scratch removal. Each of the services included at no additional charge with our film scans are also standard with print scans.

photo restoration

restoration

For those irreplaceable images that require more than a standard scan can provide, we offer our complete image restoration service. Whether it's a torn and creased print, or a badly gouged, faded and smudged slide or negative, we begin by scanning the image into our computers, then meticulously repair and recreate the damaged and missing areas of the original by hand. Yes there are some problems beyond fixing: images which were drastically underexposed or badly out of focus to start with, or film or prints which are so severely damaged there is simply not enough left to work with. That said, we have successfully restored many priceless family photographs over the years and we would be happy to evaluate yours and offer a price quote for our work. Please understand that as each image restoration project is unique we cannot offer quotes until we have scanned and thoroughly inspected the original. Of course, we will never begin a restoration or charge you for anything beyond a standard slide scan, film scan, or print scan until you have personally approved the project and the price.

DVD Slide Show Movies

camera

In addition to slide scanning, film scanning, and photo scanning, we can also create a DVD Slide Show Movie from your slide scans, film scans, photo scans, or digital camera images complete with transitions and music that will play both on your DVD-drive equipped computer as well as on most home DVD players. Due to copyright restrictions we must ask that you supply the music by emailing us the music file or files you’ve chosen, or by including a CD with your shipment. In this case simply let us know which song or songs – and in what order – you would like them used. We are able to sync the slides to fit the length of the song or playlist you provide. Particularly if your DVD slide show is to be made up of images from film scans or slide scans you may want to have us complete those first, then after having had a chance to view the results on your computer, let us know which images and in what order you would like them to appear. If you let us know in advance that this is your intent we will keep a copy of your slide scans, film scans, or photo scans on hand so there will be no need for you to send them back to us. Of course, if you want all your slide scans, film scans, or photo scans incorporated, or already know which you’d like used, simply sort and number them in the appropriate order and include that information with your shipment. Generally if you are having us put together a DVD Slide Show Movie it is best to call or email us in advance to sort out the details, provide specific instructions, or simply to ask a question.

digitizing vhs, vhs-c, 8mm, hi8 , and sony beta tapes, and saving these or Digital 8mm tape to disk.

vhs

Do you have a video slide show prepared for a wedding or other family event, or home movies moldering away on VHS, VHS-C, 8mm, Hi-8, Digital 8mm, or Sony Beta tapes? Now could be an excellent time to convert them to digital. As reported in recent studies, DVDs may not be permanent either, but most estimates put their expected lifetimes at well beyond the ten to fifteen years a VHS tape is expected to last before beginning to degrade. Besides, unlike a tape, a DVD disc can be refreshed, or re-copied, as often as desired with no loss in quality. Tapes, on the other hand, can certainly be dubbed but each tape generation will be noticeably lower in quality than the tape it was copied from. The problem is that as time goes on tape loses its ability to hold the magnetic charge placed on it by the recording heads of the camcorder or tape deck. Other factors can speed up this degradation process considerably: proximity to magnetic interference, temperature and humidity extremes, and everyday use. However, even under ideal conditions magnetic tape will begin degrading within ten to fifteen years. By having those tapes digitized to DVD now you can avoid the experience of popping in that irreplaceable family video a few years down the road only to discover a garbled mess panning across your TV screen.

Custom T-Shirts

tshirts

Do you have a family reunion coming up, a special birthday or anniversary on the horizon? Why not add to the occasion by commemorating the event in wearable form? At New World Digital Arts we have been creating and pressing custom T-Shirts professionally for more than fifteen years. If you would like one of your own images turned into a custom T-Shirt, Polo, apron, mousepad etc. please let us know. Our standard rate for printing and pressing up to an 8x10-inch image on a heavyweight Tee (S-XL) is just $15 plus actual shipping. Of course this price assumes a plain white heavyweight T-Shirt, and further assumes your artwork is already digitized and press ready. If we need to do slide scanning, film scanning, or print scanning first, add the cost of the scanning service to that price. If your image requires post scan editing, if you want text added, a larger size shirt or a larger size image, we will be happy to help, however, additional charges will apply. Because of these factors we find when it comes to T-Shirts, it is generally best to contact us by phone or email to let us know exactly what you have in mind. We will discuss your project in detail, outlining your options, and we can then give you both a firm price and expected completion date.
